What sort of people do criminals surround themselvs with?

I saw a documentary about a Swedish man who had served his sentence in prison for crimes committed. Now afterwards he wants to live a normal life, contribute to society in a correct way.

Once when he was sitting having dinner with friends the filmmaker asked him “aren’t you afraid that criminals/criminal gangs will lure you back?” His friend comes in and wants to answer and says that criminal gangs would not want him in their team. He would be a burden and a threat to them. Because now he has started thinking about what’s right and wrong. And that’s NOT the sort of person criminals want around them.

Bush and the team have acted as a bunch of criminal liars when it comes to the war against Iraq. They sold the war based on lies, deceit and propaganda. So what sort of Iraqis would they surround themselves with?

Last night I saw a video Baghdad a doctor's story filmed by an Iraqi doctor at Al-Yarmouk Hospital. The hospital’s staff are all so brave. It is people like them that represent Iraq to me.

This I can bet my life upon: Kind-hearted honest Iraqis like the 3 ambulance staff and the Iraqi surgeon would have saved the whole nation and put it back on a healthy path way back in summer 2003, had they been given the chance to rule Iraq.

That’s not, however, the sort of people the criminals at the white house and the green zone wish to surround themselves with.

Reckless leaders

What we see in Iraq today is genocide, mass murder and war crimes. Ordinary Iraqis are beige killed left and right by occupation troops, by government militias, by foreign contractors, by terrorist and by ordinary criminals. No one is safe anymore. This has been going on since the invasion and has gotten worse and worse each month. A lot of Iraqis saw the turmoil as a result of an occupation people wanted to end, so they said it peacefully thru voting, thru demonstrations, some thru armed struggle and others also true pure simple debate. No one listened to them/us, instead Bush said NO TIMETABLE FOR WITHDRAWAL. He even argued that if he gave a timetable it would mean the terrorists would have won. Strange that he does not see it as democracy would have won since the majority of Iraqis wanted a timetable. Following their wishes of the majority is what democracy is all about, how does he not see that as a good reason to give a timetable?

So he and his Iraqi puppets thought the hell with Iraqis. And rest assured, hell is what Iraqis got.

Now the US has the nerve to give Maliki a TIMETABLE TO CURVE VIOLENCE. Strange isn’t it? So what does Mr.Maliki think about that? “We do not believe in a timetable and no one will impose one on us," is his comment. So he too thinks the hell with Iraqis. And rest assured, that is exactly what Iraqis have been experiencing the last years and he wants them to continue to live in hell.

Bush and his team and the Iraqi government (yes all of them) care NOTHING about the ordinary Iraqis that are being killed every single minute of the day. Reckless leaders such as these have no credibility what so ever when it comes to caring about ordinary Iraqis. So what can I make of this? Honestly the only thing that makes real sense is that they want Iraq destroyed. Some might argue Iraq is already destroyed – well that’s true but apparently not enough for that group. Some might argue it does not make sense why would they jeopardise (especially Bush) their careers like that? I don’t know the exact answer to that. The truth is, however, surely hidden in some unholy combination of the factors Greed, Hate, Oil, apartheid-Israel, Racism, and the accelerated return of Christ.

So what's happening over here?

On the 4th of November an Iraqi exhibition starts in my town it continues until the end of January 2007! Its at Umeå University museum Bildmuset. Participants are Sinan Antoon, Arab Image Foundation, Hana Al-Bayaty, Sawsan Darwaza,Tariq Hashim, Dahr Jamail, Koutaiba Al-Janabi, Nedim Kufi, Faisel Laibi, Harb Al-Mukhtar, Loretta Napoleoni, Maysoon Pachachi, Salam Pax, Talal Refit, Samir, Baz Shamoun and curator Catherine David.

There is also the movie Weapons of Mass Deception showing this week.

There were two wars in Iraq--a military assault and a media war. The former was well-covered; the latter was not. Until now... Independent filmmaker, Emmy-award winning TV journalist, author and media critic, Danny Schechter turns the cameras on the role of the media. His new film, WMD, is an outspoken assessment of how Pentagon propaganda and media complicity misled the American people, while selling the war to influence international public opinion. Schechter compares and contrasts coverage on a global basis, including exclusive material and insider interviews. WMD is a serious film that exposes the media role—in the biggest scandal of our time. The selling of the illegal war against Iraqis.

Other movies that are showing this autumn and winter are The Iron Wall

A documentary about the illegal Jewish settlements in Palestine, the wall that would make them permanent and the effects of that on the peace process.
Orwell Roll’s in His Grave

A marvel of passionate succinctness, Robert Kane Pappas' docu critically examines the Fourth Estate, once the bastion of American democracy. Docu asks, "Could a media system, controlled by a few global corporations with the ability to overwhelm all competing voices, be able to turn lies into truth?

And finaly the documentary SIR! NO, SIR which is about the unknown history of some US soldiers anti war stance during the Vietnam war.

Boycott Israel now is continuing its work with talks about “The situation in the refugee camp Deheisha” on the 15th of November with Jessica Åberg. On the 13th of December Peder Aléx is invited to talk about “Boycott against South Africa then and Israel now”
